I Was born after my mother had been introduced to Christian Science. Therefore, from earliest childhood I was taught the truths of the Bible and of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. When I was a little more than three years old, we moved to a city where there was a branch church, and my brothers and sisters and I were enrolled in the Sunday School.

My mother's first healing was of violent headaches. She told me that after she had read Science and Health she said to herself, "If this is true, then I don't have to have this pain anymore." She was entirely freed from the headaches. Later a sister was healed of heart trouble that had threatened to limit her activities for life. A brother's healing of severe burns was another of many healings that we witnessed in our home.

Some years later, when I had married and moved to a small town far from a branch church, things became especially challenging. I began having severe, crippling attacks. My study of Science was not strong at the time, and at one point, at my husband's insistence (he was not a Christian Scientist), I obtained a medical diagnosis. When I was told that the condition was arthritis and that medical treatment could do nothing for me but allay the pain, my interest in Christian Science was reawakened. I decided to rely on God alone. Within the year a move opened up to bring me back to my family and my home church.
