My mother first learned of Christian Science from a family with whom she lived briefly during the First World War. Although she did not embrace this teaching herself, after she had married and had me, she enrolled me in a Christian Science Sunday School. I did not really accept this gift of Christian Science either, until after I was married and had enrolled my own daughter in a Christian Science Sunday School.

When our daughter was in the fourth grade, it became clear to me that I was not setting a very good example of consistency in my life regarding Christian Science. From that point on, I took up the study of Science seriously. I will always be grateful for the encouragement and help of friends and Christian Science practitioners who helped me along the path.

Cigarette smoking and social drinking were healed as I acknowledged that false dependencies could not deprive me of reaching my goal of membership in a branch church and in The Mother Church. Two years after becoming a member I had the wonderful blessing of Christian Science class instruction.
