I am writing to express much gratitude to God for Christian Science. Through my understanding of these teachings, during a severe challenge fear was overcome and a wonderful healing resulted.

One Sunday morning just before we were to leave for church, I was curling my hair by holding my head over the steam emanating from an electric kettle. Suddenly the kettle exploded with a loud bang. My face was sprayed with scalding sediment that had accumulated at the bottom of the kettle over many years. (Evidently the kettle had boiled dry and the safety switch had not worked.) I endeavored to wash the grit out of my eyes by splashing water into them, but this was painful. My vision was blurred and I became very fearful.

My husband and one of my sons came to my aid. At my request a Christian Science practitioner was telephoned to give me prayerful help, and I was led to the sofa to lie down. It was now time to leave for church. Since I felt unable to go, our son, Scott, stayed home to read to me. I wanted my husband and the rest of the family to go to church. As fear continued to mount in my thought, I felt the need to talk with the practitioner, whose statements were firm, reassuring, and comforting.
