The power of Christ to end conflict
Most people believe mankind will never be entirely free of conflict. Aggression is supposed to be built into the very nature of man. But are we really predetermined by laws of nature to be in perpetual opposition to each other? Is discord unavoidable or inevitable? Can we eliminate conflict at home and abroad?
Yes, we can. But in order to be instrumental in bringing peace to the world, we must begin by eliminating the conflict we face in our own lives. Let me relate an experience I had a few years ago that illustrates the action of divine Principle, Love, in human affairs. One day my neighbor walked up his driveway and began yelling about a fence I was having built. He said it was a monstrosity and that he was going to go to City Hall and have them make me take it down. I heard all this from inside my house and was quite upset, for I had asked his approval on the fence before the work was begun.
At first I was angry, but I knew anger couldn't solve anything, and I knew prayer could. Prayer in Christian Science includes scientific affirmation of God's government in our lives. It acknowledges His love for us and His ability to heal all our ills.
