Several years ago, while engaged as a housekeeper in a busy establishment, I became aware, two weeks before Christmas, that I was evidencing symptoms of shingles. (A close friend and a relative had both had medical treatment for this condition a few years before.) I immediately started praying for myself and asked for prayerful treatment from a Christian Science practitioner, which was, as in times past, lovingly given.
I was able to carry on with my daily duties but found it very difficult to sleep or rest. One night when the pain was severe, I opened a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy to page 313, where I read a quotation from Hebrews that refers to Christ Jesus: "Therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee / With the oil of gladness above thy fellows." [The entire sentence reads: "The term Christ Jesus, or Jesus the Christ (to give the full and proper translation of the Greek), may be rendered 'Jesus the anointed,' Jesus the God-crowned or the divinely royal man, as it is said of him in the first chapter of Hebrews:—
