About thirty years ago my health was at its lowest ebb. Ever since birth I had been living with a distressing digestive problem. It was considered hereditary, as my grandmother and father had both had it.
Through the years the problem had worsened, until it reached a desperate stage when I was about twenty-five years old. I had tried all sorts of material forms of treatment, including allopathy, homeopathy, ayurveda, and a host of others—just about everything short of black magic. But whatever relief came my way was always temporary. Finally I had reached a point where I was able to eat only rice and yogurt for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
After I had spent eighteen to twenty months on this meager diet, a friend who had just started the study of Christian Science said to me, "Well, you have tried everything else. Why don't you give Christian Science a try? What can you lose?" So I decided to give it a try, and I went to see a Christian Science practitioner.
