Since my retirement last year I have really enjoyed being able to go square-dancing and Scottish dancing several times a week. I am particularly grateful for this, as during most of the 1970s I became breathless if I climbed the stairs or crossed the road. I had to walk very slowly and stop every few minutes. I had little energy and could not comfortably lean back in a chair.
During this period I studied Christian Science intensively and had much help through prayer from several Christian Science practitioners at various times. Their patient assistance was much appreciated.
When my condition became apparent to my employers, I was under considerable pressure to receive medical help. But I was certain that the only way to demonstrate true health was to apply myself more consistently to practicing the spiritual truths I had learned in my study of Science. The breakthrough came when I began to see that material evidence is illusory. This was something I had long known in theory; now I understood it as demonstrable fact.
