While staying in an unfamiliar town fifteen hundred miles...
While staying in an unfamiliar town fifteen hundred miles from home I stumbled down some stairs and landed on the side of my foot. That evening in my hotel room I woke in great pain. My foot was stiff, and I felt totally alone. In the morning I had to attend a daylong meeting, and the prospect of managing to get there by bus left me in dismay.
I reached out to God, affirming His presence and power. Then two testimonies of healing I had heard at a Wednesday testimony meeting in a branch church came to mind. Recalling these quieted and comforted me. The testimonies had shared proofs of divine power to help in any circumstance, and thinking of them made me feel enveloped in the presence and power of God's love. I knew that I was governed by God's goodness and might, and that the man of His creating is upright and free.
One of the testimonies I recalled was about a young girl who had stepped on a nail. At first her mother had blamed herself for not being with her daughter. The blame was healed along with the daughter's injury. In my situation I blamed myself for not looking where I was going. I blamed the hotel clerk who had lost my reservation and had sent me walking down those steps to another hotel. Now I prayed to see that the hotel clerk and I had the same God and Father. It made me chuckle to remember how concerned the clerk and I had both been as we tried to figure out where I could stay. Soon I felt friendliness toward this individual and forgiveness for both of us.
