Christian Science means so much to me because...
Christian Science means so much to me because at one time, when I turned often to medicine, I did not know what it meant to feel well.
For ten years I suffered from attacks of sinusitis. After I had taken various medicines and used nose drops and inhalations, this problem was diagnosed as chronic by a well-known specialist. He said that I would have to live with this condition because of an irregular bone growth in my nose. I was also told that I was acutely allergic to dust. (While teaching at college I had to cover the chalk with paper, as otherwise I would immediately start sneezing.)
For about seven years I also suffered from severe kidney trouble. I went through various types of medical treatment, saw specialists, had numerous X-rays, and had a minor operation. Finally I was told that I would also have to live with this problem, as it was hereditary. (My grandmother had suffered from this condition.) And as if these problems were not enough, in 1975 I was told that I had developed tuberculosis. I had medical treatment for a while, but when I came back to Bombay (earlier I had been in Madras), I was so fearful that I didn't approach a doctor. This disease and the other illnesses loomed in front of me like threatening dragons. Little did I know then that there was something far greater than all of them—Christian Science. Late in 1978 I learned of this teaching through reading a copy of the Sentinel shared with me by a friend.
