One day we received word that our oldest son had been killed in a fall while he was hiking in South Africa. (He had gone there to work and live for a year.) This was a great shock to our family, but we have emerged with a sense of peace. I would like to tell you some of the steps that led to my attainment of peace. These included requesting and receiving the prayerful help of a Christian Science practitioner.
After the accident, when friends came to call on us, many came with great sadness. We talked freely about our son in ways we remembered him. We spoke of his exuberance and his love for everyone. When these friends left, they went away comforted.
A few months after the accident, my husband and I traveled to South Africa. We were beautifully sustained, and we actually enjoyed ourselves as guests of the family with whom our son had been living and working. Following our visit, my husband returned directly to the States while I flew to Germany to visit my sister.
