I would like to tell of an experience which showed me and my family once again that Christian Science is practical and effective when we apply its teachings correctly.
Some time ago our son suffered an attack of severe diarrhea. At first I accepted the mistaken view that certain foods were harmful to him. For a week—until I saw that this was not dealing with the problem in Christian Science—he was fed only those foods that, according to popular belief, would not aggravate the condition.
The child did not, however, experience any improvement. I then saw the need to rely absolutely on God in Christian Science. At that point I lost my fear of the difficulty and unhesitatingly began to feed our son normally. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy we read (p. 388): "Admit the common hypothesis that food is the nutriment of life, and there follows the necessity for another admission in the opposite direction,—that food has power to destroy Life, God, through a deficiency or an excess, a quality or a quantity. ... The fact is, food does not affect the absolute Life of man, and this becomes self-evident, when we learn that God is our Life." Our son responded to these truths, and in a very short time he was free and completely well.
