Although I was raised in Christian Science and attended a Christian Science Sunday School, I did not fully appreciate the value of this teaching until much later. As a child, I experienced a number of healings that showed me the power of God and the efficacy of Christian Science treatment.
The most memorable of these occurred when I was twelve. It was the healing of a very severe case of poison ivy. A Christian Science practitioner, who had often helped our family through prayer, was called, and she came to visit me. I was in bed with a fever and with my swollen arms wrapped to protect the bed sheets.
I recall feeling the presence of Love as expressed by the practitioner. In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy we read (p. 365), "If the Scientist reaches his patient through divine Love, the healing work will be accomplished at one visit, and the disease will vanish into its native nothingness like dew before the morning sunshine." This is just what occurred, for after the practitioner's visit the inflammation abated rapidly and disappeared, and I was soon healed.
