The hunger for spirituality in relationships
"What's Love Got To Do With It," Terry Britten and Graham Lyle, "What's Love Got To Do With It," sung by Tina Turner on the album "Private Dancer" (Hollywood, California: Capitol Records, 1984). a recent popular song asks. And a song from a few years ago says, "I'm looking for a hard headed woman." Cat Stevens, "Hard Headed Woman," sung by Cat Stevens on the album "Tea for the Tillerman" (Hollywood, California: A&M Records, 1970 ). In a way both songs are talking about a question many people are trying to answer: What am I supposed to be looking for in a relationship?
Boy meets girl, girl meets boy, or maybe they just wish they could meet. But then what? There has to be more to relationships than a one-night stand, sexual experimentation, or even the longer-lasting "no strings" live-in love affair. It still hurts when it's over.
The media say there is a return to traditional values—more people wanting to get married, belong to a church, settle down, and have families. If that is what we are feeling, are we just being pushed by the swing of the pendulum? Are we reacting to the sixties or the seventies, which were reactions to the fifties, and so on?
