A parable of the kingdom
Why did Christ Jesus speak so much of the kingdom of God? The Phillips translation of Luke's Gospel tells us: "At daybreak, he went off to a deserted place, but the crowds tried to find him and when they did discover him, tried to prevent him from leaving them. But he told them, 'I must tell the good news of the kingdom of God to other towns as well—that is my mission.'" Luke 4:42, 43 (J. B. Phillips translation).
Suppose your name is Jedidiah. Like others before you, you've been gathering information through your eyes and ears to try to find out what you can expect out of life, and the report isn't very encouraging. Sickness, lack, injustice, aggression, oppression, sin, and on and on, appear scheduled to be your typical experience, just as they'd been for your fathers before you.
But what can you do? That's life.
