The melting effect of Truth

The ninety-seventh Psalm has a powerful thing to say about "melt": "The hills melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth." Ps. 97:5. And Amos likewise tells us of the great melting power of the Lord. He says: "The Lord God of hosts is he that toucheth the land, and it shall melt." Amos 9:5.

Thinking of the hills and the land as representing mortal consciousness and materiality, one finds a tremendous power in these two references. At one time the six-month-old child of someone very near and dear to me was extremely sick. The Psalm reference flooded my thought. In my prayers, I held to it the whole day, thinking of the great power of God to melt the fear and false belief that would enslave this child and call her a victim of material circumstances. By nightfall the whole congestion had melted away, and the child was completely healed.

When the wonder and glory of divine Truth are accepted, felt, and allowed to work in thought, we are giving mankind the most precious gift we can give. Christian Science fosters this spiritual enlightenment. The textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, details the Science of Life and step by step shows the route Spiritward. Mrs. Eddy discovered this Science through her profound study of the Bible and gave to the world its spiritual interpretation. She says in the textbook: "Corporeal sense, or error, may seem to hide Truth, health, harmony, and Science, as the mist obscures the sun or the mountain; but Science, the sunshine of Truth, will melt away the shadow and reveal the celestial peaks." Science and Health, p. 299.
