Spiritual unity and the brotherhood of man

Turning on the radio one day, I caught the last words of a local broadcast. Mentioning the moral similarities that exist between nations, the speaker said that these matters should be explored more, not pushed aside as sentimental.

I pricked up my ears, remembering an item I had read in The Christian Science Monitor a few days before in "The news—briefly." Monitor, May 9, 1983. It referred to the ovation a Chinese audience had given Arthur Miller's play Death of a Salesman after its premiere in Peking. Playwright Miller was quoted as saying, "I believe there's a universal human being, some underlying, profound human character, which is disguised by different cultures."

Christian Science reveals that there is indeed a basic unity among all mankind, an inherent, underlying character. And as the radio speaker indicated, this unity should be explored more. Why? Because this would lead to understanding and forbearance.
