Planning—based on answered prayer

People usually think of planning as a process by which one first establishes a goal and then develops a plan of action to bring about its accomplishment. Having established a plan, they take steps to bring that goal into human experience.

How often do we fall into the trap of first developing a plan of action, then praying to God to ensure its successful conclusion? When a need appears, should we not first pray to God, divine Mind, for guidance in discerning whether the need is real—not simply a frivolous desire for material things, or for a change in place or activity, or for escape from having to deal with an unpleasant or dishonest character trait? We can humbly pray to see God's unfolding of His answer to our genuine needs and place our trust in His omnipotent and cherishing care. This requires the humble giving up of the human mind's impulse to plan, arrange, or otherwise outline a certain desired result.

By turning to God from the start and yielding to His will, we are assured that it is God's plan that is unfolding, not ours, and that God will care for and nourish it and bring about its orderly unfolding in our human experience. Through such trust we are filled with confidence in the coming of His plan—a plan more beautiful, more abundant, and more complete in its infinite detail than any the human mind could conceive.
