One morning while taking a shower, I noticed a small, unusual growth on my body. The first thought that came was: "Oh, this is probably a result of X disease. It will get worse and worse, and then I may die!" Thinking back on that day, I realize that I must have spent most of it being frightened and really wasting time entertaining a lot of unhealthy thoughts.

The next morning, however, I prayed, listening to and communing with God, and studying our pastor—the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The subject of that week's Bible Lesson (outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly) was "Soul and Body." It was a very holy time.

Later, while taking a shower, I felt fear again about the growth. But then the thought came: "Now, what have you been doing for the last hour?" Oh, yes, I realized, I'd been learning the truth of Soul and body, which is provable, practical. "Yes! Soul, God, is in control," I thought. "And Soul governs body." Then Mrs. Eddy's statement came to mind (Science and Health, p. 402): "We say that one human mind can influence another and in this way affect the body, but we rarely remember that we govern our own bodies."
