FOR CHILDREN

Let God help you

Marian was a freshman in high school when she was asked to substitute as pianist for her church one Sunday. The thought of getting up in front of everyone put her in a panic. She wasn't at all a polished musician. She kept imagining the mistakes she could make. Marian had to give her answer in a few days. She started practicing the hymns but couldn't shake the fear. It was awful being torn between wanting to help out and feeling terribly self-conscious.

However, she knew that God would help her with the answer. Marian had learned from Christian Science that God is our Shepherd, our protector, and our guide. As long as she could remember, she had trusted God and had nice healings. Marian knew His love is always with us and He is our real Father and Mother.

So Marian prayed, listening for Him the best she knew how. She thought of God's ability. She knew Christ Jesus did many wonderful works and yet said, "I can of mine own self do nothing:...I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me." John 5:30. And she thought of Mrs. Eddy's words in Science and Health, "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." Science and Health, p. 1.
