Christian Science was brought to my family's attention by a man who was a newcomer to this teaching. He was so overjoyed with a recent healing he had had, that he wanted to share his joy with others who were in need of healing. My stepmother had been suffering for some time with a back injury. She sought the help of a Christian Science practitioner and was healed at her first visit with the practitioner. After that, some of our family members began to study Christian Science.

At the time, I was in my midteens, and as I began to read the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I had the feeling that here was a book that could help me find answers to my questions about life and the reason for my existence. Whenever possible I attended a Christian Science Sunday School. I always had many questions, and looking back on that time I realize that they were all questions probing the nature of matter.

I will never forget and will always be grateful for the answer I received one Sunday. The teacher said that if I continued my study of the Bible and Science and Health, in time these questions would be answered for me. She quoted Christ Jesus' words (John 8:31, 32) "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." That teacher must have done her homework (prayed), for her answer satisfied me.
