Are problems barriers to us?

[Original in Portuguese]

How many of us have heard it said, "Who doesn't have problems to meet?" This can be a discouraging outlook especially if we consider other persons or God Himself as responsible for the difficulty that has arisen.

But if we analyze this question within the framework of Christian Science, we see that difficulties are nothing more than a claim of so-called mortal mind to exist and to say that it governs our experiences, our bodies, our lives.

An experience I had illustrates this point. As my wife and I returned by bus from a meeting held in a neighboring country, I noticed that my wallet with all the documents, passports, credit cards, and checkbooks had disappeared. The moment of first impact was the decisive one: either I would despair, fold my arms in the apathy of considering myself the helpless victim of a theft, or I would know that it was an opportunity for the works of God to "be made manifest." See John 9:3 . I chose the latter. One of the first steps was to telephone a Christian Science practitioner, who gave me much support and strengthened my trust in God. She agreed to pray for me. My wife also lent support with her prayers and her attitude. Everything that happened from then on was a consequence of that first step, that sure choice.
