The light
Now that I am come out of darkness
into this marvelous light—
into God's splendid, radiant world
made blazing bright by the Word of Truth—
I could, if I felt inclined
(and with nary a qualm),
take a look at the night;
look at its once-feared dark
with my new-washed eyes
made sharp by the revelation
shining about. For I know
(and oh! the delight of knowing!)
the night will be gone.
Wherever I look with my new eyes,
fresh bathed in the brilliance
of their first awareness,
night will be fled:
for in God's universe
(Lord! What a beautiful world!)
it is always a clear day,
there is always this marvelous light.
