Over a period of years there have been so many blessings in my life that I simply must express my sincere gratitude for Christian Science. One summer evening my husband and I were walking along the seashore when we found ourselves in quicksand. As we realized that the sea was beginning to encircle us and that with each step we were getting deeper, we became afraid. Then a verse from that week's Bible Lesson, outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, came to thought (Ex. 23:20): "Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared." As we pondered this spiritual truth, the fear left and we were able to make our way to firm ground, rejoicing once more in God's protection.
At another time, I was unable to move, even to use the phone at my bedside to call for help. So I literally called out to God, and, as always, the need was met. Shortly I was free.
Recently a friend who is not a Christian Scientist asked me to relate some of my experiences to two other friends whom I hadn't seen for some years. I told them about a very stormy passage to Australia I'd made by boat years earlier, and how I had prayed and sung hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal in overcoming my own fears as well as the fear expressed by others. My friend's acknowledgment that my religion had been and is a source of comfort, strength, and protection made me humbly grateful and reminded me of all the good I have received and problems that have been overcome.
