Erasing birthmarks
If we think of ourselves as nothing more than mortal beings, then it may be logical for us to bear the indelible imprint of our human birth and parentage, both its good and bad aspects. But if we begin to see ourselves instead as the individual representatives of God, who is Spirit and Mind, then it's natural for us to reproduce God's characteristics instead, and these have no disfiguring element.
What are some of God's characteristics? Spiritual qualities like goodness, purity, completeness, distinctness, brightness, wisdom, integrity, love. Emanating from divine Mind, man is idea rather than corporeality. As a sunbeam embodies the warmth and light of the sun, including all the colors of the rainbow without any dark patches, so man reflects the perfection of God.
Man reflects the divine qualities in an individual way, but their substance is always derived from God, who is their source. Man is never cut off from God any more than the sunbeam is cut off from the sun. Understanding man's spiritual nature by recognizing his perfection as the child of a perfect, spotless God breaks what seems to be the flawed pattern of human experience. Each one of us has his own individual unity with God.
