World on the brink
During the dark days of World War II, the free world seemed on the brink of falling before the military avalanche of the totalitarian powers. Yet God-fearing people everywhere were steadfast in prayer, holding resolutely to the fact of God's omnipotence.
The assurance of God's supremacy is stated with few words but maximum impact in the book of Revelation: "The Lord God omnipotent reigneth." Rev. 19:6. Clinging to this conviction melted the icy grip of fear on many hearts during that war. And, surely, a power greater than anything human helped bring mankind through that agonizing time.
Today, in addition to widespread fear that the world is on the brink of nuclear holocaust, many people feel that their individual lives are on the brink of catastrophe from financial or career disaster, medical verdicts of incurability, or troubled relationships that threaten to tear them apart. It may very well be that as individual lives are rescued by Christ, Truth, from impending collapse, the world will draw back from holocaust. But dealing with crisis—even the crisis of one's own world crashing down around him—requires faith in God supported by spiritual understanding.
