With great gratitude, I related a healing that introduced me to Christian Science and gave my life spiritual direction.
When my daughter was eight years old, she became very ill. (I was divorced at the time and had sole custody of the child.) She was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed as having meningitis. She was immediately put in an isolation ward, and I was allowed to visit her daily but only as far as the door of her room. After she had been unconscious for days with a high fever, the chief physician informed me that my daughter would die, and that this would be for the best, since otherwise she would not be normal mentally. At that point the medical treatment was stopped.
It cannot be described how I felt. The grief settled tangibly on my mind and body like a heavy weight. On my way home that day, although I avoided people, I felt led to go and see an acquaintance who was a parish nurse. She was there, and I unburdened my heart to her. Afterward she told me that from a medical point of view there was no hope for my daughter, but that I could try Christian Science. She herself had been helped by it, she said.
