"You have to be yourself"
I was talking with a friend of mine about his excellent still photographs. He said at one point in explaining his success, "You have to be yourself." Later I was talking with another friend who is an outstanding amateur movie photographer. And I heard essentially the same comment in his discussion of his work.
At a time when there seems to be a constant pressure to think and act just like everybody else, do we truly see the need to value individuality? We do "have to be ourselves." But the question may be, Just what is our true self?
The Apostle Paul points to God as the true source of individuality in these words: "Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all." I Cor. 12:4–6.
