While I was a salesman for a large electronics firm, I found the truths of Christian Science to be an effective, practical help in business. I am particularly grateful for the help I received when confronted with a tough business situation with one of my major accounts.

A highly respected and influential employee of another firm had written a memorandum critical of our company. He accused us of poor product-delivery performance, among other things. In concluding the memo he stated that if the situation did not improve, his firm would cease doing business with us. I was shocked, for I felt that the memo could destroy the confidence their employees had in our company. During the past year and a half I had earned the trust of members of the firm in question. I was deeply concerned over the prospect of losing their trust as well as their business. I set up a meeting for the next day to answer the charges.

As I drove to another appointment eighty miles south, I began to apply spiritual truths to this situation. I acknowledged God's ever-presence and His law of harmony, and I refused to accept any suggestion of discord. I knew that as I declined to indulge in self-pity, confusion, or resentment, I would be receptive to the guidance of our Father-Mother God.
