Open to possibilities

Not always along paths of conventionality does Christ come.
The way of things-as-they-have-always-been-done,
Of human reason, precedent, and pride,
Is too restricted for both ourselves and Christ.

We need a path with a more humble bent,
One open to divine accompaniment,
If, like the disciples journeying to Emmaus,
We are to perceive the Christ, present with us.

Most assumed Jesus was in the tomb.
But in the hearts of a few was room
For the unparalleled, the unprecedented—
And they beheld their Saviour, resurrected.

The "it's never been done" of accepted tradition
The "it can't be done" of popular conviction
Are confining byways, forsaken as we
Open thought-roads to divine possibilities.
