When those school bells ring
There aren't many old-fashioned school bells ringing to call children to school these days. But often parents, teachers, public officials, wish there were. School bells seem to symbolize a past era when, we're told, everything about raising children was simpler.
As the school year starts in 1984, however, there's much in society that needs careful consideration. Should a mother leave her children alone after school until she gets home from work? How can I protect my child from pornography? What can be done about pervasive immoral attitudes toward values?
These are the relatively new questions. The old ones still remain. Is my daughter too involved with that boy? What kind of influence will those kids have on my son? Can he manage that demanding athletic schedule and still keep his grades up?
