Our oldest son was involved in an accident...

Our oldest son was involved in an accident when he was thirteen. He had a job delivering newspapers, and one day after dark a speeding motorist hit him with such an impact that the bicycle our son was riding was thrown on top of the motorist's car. When I arrived on the scene (I was alone because my husband was at work), the boy had already been taken to a hospital.

Before I had left home, I had phoned a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer. So I continued on to the hospital. There the doctor gave some dire predictions of a possible concussion, broken bones, and internal injuries. The child was cleaned up but was given no medical treatment at any time. (I had told the doctor that I was a Christian Scientist. Our son had expressed his wish to rely on prayer for his healing.)

Although the boy remained in the hospital overnight to rest, in the morning, after I had spent many hours studying and praying in Christian Science, I asked for his release. I wanted to be permitted to take the child home. The doctors were against my taking him, but I was given the papers to sign. My husband, who is not a Christian Scientist, had also agreed to my taking our son home. And I was very grateful for this.
