Uplift through praise
Periodically a household worker comes to help me clean house. Sadie is a happy person and spiritually-minded. She sings hymns while she cleans. She also maintains a high standard in her work as a means of honoring God.
How taken aback we were, then, when one morning Sadie arrived depressed. She told us that she had been involved in an investment deal, and through the management's maneuverings had lost a sizable amount of her hard-earned savings. She had become very angry and soon after, suffered a stroke, which had left her with a drooping eyelid.
An ophthalmologist and the head physician at a leading hospital agreed she would just have to live with the condition. However, the physician strongly advised her to forget the incident that had triggered the trouble. This presented just the opening I needed.
