How does one express in words the wonderful...

How does one express in words the wonderful sense of well-being and security that being raised in a home of practicing Christian Scientists can bring? During my childhood I was free from fear, including fear of the dark. (As a toddler I enjoyed sleeping alone upstairs.) Anxiety over tests in school was easily dispelled as I affirmed that I was truly God's child, expressing the intelligence derived from Him. Later in school, as a result of prayer, I found it possible to stay on the honor roll right through college. This entitled me to four years of scholarships, including graduate study at a favorite art school, something that otherwise would have been financially out of reach.

At the age of three I learned the definition of God given in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and in later years I've pondered it often (p. 587): "The great I am; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence." Although I had many of the so-called children's diseases, there was rarely any discomfort, and the conditions were swiftly overcome through Christian Science with no aftereffects.

My first visit to a doctor was for my first pregnancy. The visit was made out of obedience to the laws of the state, and I chose a doctor who understood that I wanted to receive the least medical attention possible. I am grateful to say that health and harmony were fully expressed during the pregnancy.
