It is well over fifty years since my parents were first introduced to Christian Science. My mother was healed of insomnia through reading an issue of the Sentinel. She often recalled how, when she had put that Sentinel down, she felt the peace of God all around her. And she slept soundly until morning—the first deep and serene sleep she had had for many years.

From birth I had been a very unhealthy child, with a foot deformity that made walking and playing difficult. Although my parents spent a great deal of money taking me to various medical specialists, I showed little improvement. However, when Christian Science came into our home and I had my own copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I began to have much more freedom.

I had always wanted to become a trained nurse because of empathy with my mother, who had nursed for the Red Cross during World War I. With the increased freedom I was experiencing as my study of Christian Science was restoring me to normalcy, I felt strongly led to become a Christian Science nurse.
