In gratitude for all that Christian Science is doing for me,...
In gratitude for all that Christian Science is doing for me, mine, and all mankind, I would like to share some healings. From the time I was a small child I've had a love of God. Once, when I was still quite young, a woman from the nearby branch Church of Christ, Scientist, came to visit my mother and asked if I would like to attend the Christian Science Sunday School. (She would arrange transportation for me.) My mother allowed me to go, and I attended for a couple of years. Although I didn't understand very much, I felt the love of the Sunday School teachers there. This experience stayed with me, and years later—when I was married and had two children of my own—I felt led to go back to this church in a time of great need.
Our eldest child was five then, so I (with my husband's consent) enrolled him in the Christian Science Sunday School—the same one I had attended. (My first husband was not a Christian Scientist.) At the child's request I started attending church services. Attending for the first time after some years' absence from Christian Science was quite unforgettable. I felt great peace and a sense of home I'd never known before. I was sure I was where I belonged. And even though I found I did not understand much of the readings (from the Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy), I continued to attend.
My husband and I seemed to be in great need during this period, and after collecting our son from Sunday School one time, I mentioned this to his teacher. I also asked if she knew where I could get help. She explained that she was a Christian Science practitioner and would certainly be willing to pray for me. So I asked her to. With this help, my thought was gradually enlightened until I realized I could understand the Christ message in the church services. Then I began to study daily the Bible Lesson outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly. Many needs were met—one of which was a new roof on the garage where we were living.
