Continuing strength

The strengthening influence of the power of Christ, Truth, active in human consciousness, is illustrated in the life of Caleb. He was strengthened because he and Joshua had obeyed God by refusing to be kept out of the land God had promised. They rejected fear and in the face of all opposition insisted that the children of Israel should and could go forward. More than four decades later, Caleb, in reminding Joshua of this, observed, "I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now." Josh. 14:11.

The power of Christ comes to us to destroy whatever is unlike or would oppose the continuing action of divine Mind. Christ reveals our unity with God and gives us the ongoing spiritual animus of that divine relationship. Thus, no one need be deprived of the vibrancy and felicity of continuing strength and the freedom this affords. We need to watch our thinking in order to keep it firm in the understanding of the vivacity of Soul, divine Spirit.

Some years ago I was challenged to prove this when I experienced severe tiredness over a period of several months. I recognized the situation as a demand to gain a better understanding of the strength that reflects God. I needed to see the unreality of the mortal suggestions of fatigue, stress, discouragement, and to grasp more firmly the ever-presence of true health, continuous spiritual strength, and joy; in other words, I needed to grow spiritually.
