Your purpose and your motive

"The purpose and motive to live aright can be gained now. This point won, you have started as you should. You have begun at the numeration-table of Christian Science, and nothing but wrong intention can hinder your advancement,"^{ Science and Health, p. 326.} writes Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health.

We cannot effectively do the right thing for the wrong reason nor the wrong thing for the right reason. Integrity breeds success if we do the right thing for the right reason.

In the Bible story in which David goes out with his sling and five smooth stones to slay Goliath, the young shepherd's purpose was to conquer the evil that faced his people; but his motive was "that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel."^{ I Sam. 17:46.}
