Don't dawdle with error

The healing method of Christian Science begins with the acknowledgment of perfect God and perfect man. The understanding of this scientific fact is at the heart of metaphysical practice. As we anchor our thought and prayers in the perfect Principle of being, the specific truths needed to destroy the specific false beliefs underlying a discord are revealed to us, and restoration assured.

Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health, "The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration." Science and Health, p. 259.

Yet when wickedness or illness or any of the other discordant effects of false, material sense tempts us to accept it as real, how often we promptly depart from this basic Principle and immerse ourselves in the problem. We try to excuse, justify, find a reason for the error. "It's because I'm tired or lonely or anxious." Even worse, we may blame someone else. "I'm ill because of the children or the boss." The excuses are endless and sometimes pernicious. By blaming something or someone we may find an uneasy, deceptive calm, but doing this only adds weight to the problem—makes it seem more real.
