One evening just before dinner, our older daughter...
One evening just before dinner, our older daughter telephoned to tell us that our ten-year-old son had caught his hand in the ball-return mechanism at the bowling alley. She said that we should come immediately.
When my wife and I arrived a few minutes later, we found a large crowd around our son. By this time the machinery had been disassembled, and the boy's hand set free. Several women were trying to calm him. For an instant I was mesmerized by the very aggressive picture of injury, but as I reached out for God's guidance, it became clear what I should do.
I moved to my son's side and softly but firmly told him that God loved him and was with him at that very moment. The boy stopped crying immediately.
