The apple of His eye

When the writer was a young child and had a loving relationship with her father, he often said to her tenderly, "You are the apple of my eye." In her late teens she found Christian Science, and gradually as she awoke to the spiritual fact that God was her real Father-Mother, it was not too difficult for her to grasp that she was indeed the apple of God's eye—an understanding that enriched her life increasingly and continues to do so.

To learn that God is our source is heartwarming. God is man's real and only Parent—our genuine origin. God loves every one of His precious ideas beyond measure. Without His idea, spiritual man, God would not have His full expression. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, writes: "God, without the image and likeness of Himself, would be a nonentity, or Mind unexpressed. He would be without a witness or proof of His own nature." Science and Health, p. 303. We, every one of us everywhere, constitute this proof—demonstrate our actual being—in the ratio that we express in our daily living the qualities that come from God, good, Love, Principle. The study of Christian Science shows one how to do this. It reveals what these qualities are. Through recognizing man's true origin, it is possible to gain a glimpse of the real spiritual man and universe: the Christ-idea.

The real being of everyone is this witness, the likeness of the eternal God. This realization fathers and mothers one in every facet of living and being. It unfolds the Christ in individual life. It reveals the limitlessness of one's ability in every good direction. It awakens one to reality—present heaven, harmony. Refuting whatever is contrary to this real sense of things opens doors, releasing one from the constrictions, limitations, frustrations, that confront one in the mortal sense of identity and living. Such refutation of error exposes the misery of greed, replacing graspingness with generosity. It awakens in thought a purity outshining the material, counterfeit senses.
