Daily I thank God that Christian Science was introduced to me and that I readily accepted it as the truth. Over the years our family has had so many healings, for which we praise God. One of the things I appreciate most is the freedom from fears that used to trouble me quite a bit. Now I know that God is always with me and that his help is ever present, no matter what the situation.

The first time I attended a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, was a healing in itself. I felt like the prodigal in Christ Jesus' parable (see Luke 15:11-32). I felt as though I had come home at last. During my late teens I had started to use drugs, and to smoke and drink socially. All these habits dropped away effortlessly when Christian Science came into my life.

At that time I made a commitment to myself to stop wearing glasses. (I had worn them for about twelve years because of nearsightedness.) This healing of nearsightedness didn't come overnight. But as my understanding of the true nature of man grew, I realized that sight, although believed by many to be a physical sense, is actually a spiritual sense. Mary Baker Eddy defines "eyes" in the Glossary of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 586): "Eyes. Spiritual discernment,—not material but mental.
