Several years ago I suddenly became quite ill, something unusual for me as I had had no serious health problems up till then. The pain in my left side was so severe that at times I seemed unable to stand, sit, walk, or even talk.

At the time this occurred I was a member of The Mother Church and of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, taking an active part in branch church affairs. Yet, when faced with this problem, I recognized that I had been studying the letter of Christian Science without understanding the spiritual meaning of what I was reading.

Feeling the need for help, I called on a Christian Science practitioner. The practitioner spoke of God's allness, and how man, the image of God, includes nothing of a discordant nature, for he expresses only good. I was instructed to study carefully the following passages from the Bible (Acts 17:27, 28): "... they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: for in him we live, and move, and have our being; ... For we are also his offspring." And from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 275): "All substance, intelligence, wisdom, being, immortality, cause, and effect belong to God. These are His attributes, the eternal manifestations of the infinite divine Principle, Love. No wisdom is wise but His wisdom; no truth is true, no love is lovely, no life is Life but the divine; no good is, but the good God bestows."
