A few years ago I noticed a small spot on my cheek near my eye; the spot did not disappear but instead grew larger. At that time one in my family who is not a Christian Scientist was taken to a hospital in an emergency. I accompanied him, and after he was attended to and in bed, the doctor came to me and looked at the spot on my cheek. He then said, "Come to my office some day this week and I will see about taking care of that spot for you," adding that it looked cancerous.

I did not go for medical treatment, but I did seek help through prayer. This went on for some time, a few years in fact. I called on various Christian Science practitioners during this interval, although I never felt that the healing was up to someone else. I knew that it was my thought that had to be corrected and fear displaced.

I started wearing dark glasses to shield the problem, and I retired more or less from activity with others. I stopped going to have my teeth cleaned, as was my habit, for the dentist commented on the facial condition.
