Five years ago I reached a point in my life when all my hopes and dreams collapsed like a house of cards. It seemed as if I had been forced to the edge of an abyss and there was no turning back. In my anguish I remembered that many years before I had had occasional contact with a Christian Scientist. Communication had been difficult because she did not speak Spanish and I did not speak English. But still, I had felt the Christian influence of her love, which sowed in me a seed of hope. This seed was now coming to healing fruition.

In my affliction I prayed deeply, asking that my life be preserved. And divine Love responded to my supplication in the most splendid way. I could see for myself that Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, p. 494) "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" is not superficial comfort. Rather it expresses the truth that God is infinite good and that man is His likeness. Therefore, as we step by step leave material sense for spiritual sense, false beliefs disappear, and God's kingdom opens before us. As Mrs. Eddy says (ibid., p. 162), "The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind." With this change of base in my own thinking, my perspective was transformed from contemplating the abyss of mortality to beholding the infinitude of Mind, filled with beauty and grand accomplishments. I began and have continued through divine Science to turn to God as my only support in all that I have to face.

I am now enjoying marvelous health and vitality. The fear of lack is gone, and consequently there is an abundance of everything I need. Solitude does not haunt me, because I know that God is everywhere and He is the only company I truly desire. Also, the Bible, Science and Health, The Herald of Christian Science, and, in general, all the other Christian Science literature I have been able to read have given me daily nourishment, joy, and strength.
