After our daughter was born, the day came...
After our daughter was born, the day came for me to take her home from the hospital. I was then told by doctors that she had a "clicking hip." At that stage they were unable to tell me how badly she would be affected—just that it could mean operations, splints, even walking with a limp. So started the many visits to the hospital for X-rays and examinations. Eventually I was told that nothing could be done until our daughter was walking.
It was after this that I felt quite lost and was looking for some help in whatever way it should come. One day my husband brought home some Christian Science literature for me, including the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, other writings by Mrs. Eddy, and the book A Century of Christian Science Healing. Then I decided to read the textbook. At first I did not realize that it had changed my thinking. But it must have done so quite naturally, for I was healed of migraine headaches and a slipped disk that had given me a great deal of trouble—just through reading Science and Health! One statement of truth that has been so useful during and since this time is on page 463 of the textbook: "A spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive." Also, especially meaningful has been the Lord's Prayer, with its spiritual interpretation, where Mrs. Eddy says (p. 17):
