Unimpaired being

A renowned violinist was advised facetiously to play one wrong note every night before retiring because the gods would destroy him who is perfect. Such flattery was probably amusing. But the Psalmist was more spiritually factual when he declared, "Thou upholdest me in mine integrity." Ps. 41:12.

Must God's man, created in His image, live in a state of punctured perfection that includes both good and evil? A state where "if only it weren't for this problem" becomes the epitaph for his hopes and potentials?

One definition of "integrity" is "the quality or state of being unimpaired; perfect condition; soundness." And it is man's unimpaired selfhood that God upholds. This spiritual state, revealed in Christian Science, is the true basis of health and morality. In fact, these two go hand in hand. True health is not drug-dependent. And morality based on integrity is not the "new" morality, a hybrid that may set up housekeeping with self-indulgence and permissiveness. Genuine health and morality result from spiritualized thought, which brings true moral and physical freedom.
