My family has had so many instances of protection...
My family has had so many instances of protection and healing, it is impossible to enumerate them all in this testimony. One time my daughter and I walked away unhurt from a car that had just been struck and destroyed by a train. So-called childhood diseases were quickly healed. One son's nose was broken but then very soon set perfectly through prayer. The other son broke a leg in a skiing mishap. It was in the cast only three weeks instead of the predicted six.
Early in my study of Christian Science, both migraine headaches and a tendency to contract heavy colds simply faded away. My understanding of the Scriptures has also been clarified, and one passage in particular was proved in my life when I greatly needed authoritative guidance. It reads (Isa. 30:21): "Thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left."
My peace, joy, and confidence were shattered about fifteen years ago by the suicide of one of my sons—a young man in his early twenties; a young man of great potential. When it happened I blamed myself for not having loved enough, listened enough, and for not having had the wisdom to provide proper guidance. I couldn't sleep, dreaded meeting friends, and cried whenever I was alone, in spite of earnestly studying Mary Baker Eddy's writings and reading the Christian Science periodicals. I was First Reader in our branch church then, and my initial reaction was thinking that I must resign. But a Christian Science practitioner pointed out that this would be bowing to error not God, so I carried on. The time dedicated to preparing services provided periods of freedom from thinking about self. And the readings from the Bible, and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy that unfolded for the Wednesday testimony meetings were helpful both to me and to the congregation.
