Coming home
On the way back to Zion
We walked through dark places,
Swamps of loneliness, valleys of despair,
Saw sights better not seen
In ourselves and those around us.
With every step we turned more
And more to God, for strength, for life,
Dropping extra baggage, until
All we had left was the pearl
Christ Jesus had told us about. See Matt. 13:45, 46 .
Along the steeps we clambered,
Frightened, yet exhilarated.
For it seemed as though angels—
Bright messengers of God—
Were in our midst, succoring us.
On the way back to Zion
Our hearts began to sing again
Of the glory of Truth,
The beauty of Soul,
And the joy of Love-with-us.
Their song so engaged us in loving God
That we forgot the weary journey,
And only much later realized
That praise of Him had brought us home—
To Zion.
