Mary Baker Eddy on page 442 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures...
Mary Baker Eddy on page 442 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures says, "Christian Scientists, be a law to yourselves that mental malpractice cannot harm you either when asleep or when awake." Some years ago, when living in another country, I had an experience that, as a student of Christian Science, "put me to the test" in a unique and surprising way.
Standing in my front yard one evening, awaiting a friend who was to call for me en route to a party, I was approached by a small, obviously poverty-stricken man. Rubbing his stomach and holding out his hand, he gave me to understand that he was in need.
Begging is illegal in that country, so I waved him away. Still he persisted, and though I had no purse with me, I did reach into my pocket, found a very small coin, and gave it to the man. He immediately recognized the insignificance of the coin, and remained importunately pleading for more. I indicated to him that I had no more with me. At that moment my friend arrived, and I went on my way to the party, with scarcely another thought about the incident.
