Signposts on the road to healing

The last time I drove from Boston to Denver, many miles passed before I saw any highway signs to indicate that Denver would eventually come. Had I started from Omaha, there would have been evidence very soon as I traveled that Denver was definitely ahead. Sometimes our beginning point determines the kind of signs we've got to watch for. In this case Buffalo, Cleveland, Chicago, all indicated that I was headed in the right direction— even though there was a lot of ground to cover before I got to Omaha.

There may be instances when one has to learn a similar lesson as he prays for a healing. We may set right out seeking the solution to a major difficulty. And the answer may come very quickly—depending on where we've started.

But is there disappointment if we discover that our beginning point was slightly further away than anticipated? The Bible vividly reminds us of God's promise, "Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared." Ex. 23:20. There's no need to be discouraged just because we haven't seen the full healing on the horizon. In fact, we can be deeply encouraged if we'll be alert enough to notice the signs along the path to healing. If we're overly intent on the specific human destination, we might miss the signs and find ourselves unsure whether we're moving in the right direction.
